Synopsis

Reproductive health is characterised as a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being in all matters related to reproduction (1). Given the significant global disparities, improving reproductive health is a Global Health priority and one of the main objectives of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)(1). For instance, the maternal mortality ratio (MMR), defined as the number of maternal deaths per 100.000 live births, varies  by more than 100-fold between low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) and high-income countries (HICs)(1).
